Employers, not WUZZUF’s staff, screen applications. After the employer posts a job, they find an inbox full of applicants, all waiting to get hired. But what differentiates between one candidate and another on WUZZUF is their Matching Score. Candidates are ranked according to their Matching Score, and therefore the ones with the highest scores are placed at the top of the list and have the highest chances of having their applications viewed.

The Matching Score is a smart matchmaking tool that evaluates your suitability for the job you applied for. It’s based on two criteria: Job Requirements and Candidate Interest.

The Job Requirements feature evaluates how relevant your skills and experience are to the requirements of the job you’re applying for, while the Candidate Interest feature assesses how much you care about getting the job.

For example, if you’re a software developer with 10 years of experience and a minimum salary of 10,000 EGP and you apply for the position of a software engineer where the employer specifies that they need someone with 10+ years of industry experience and they’re willing to offer 15,000 EGP, you’ll have a pretty high Matching Score.

How can you get the best Matching Score?

It’s all about relevance. The key here is to accurately fill out the information in your WUZZUF profile and apply for jobs that you’re actually qualified for and genuinely want. The more relevant the job you’re applying for to the skills, experience, and Job Preferences you listed in your profile, the higher your Matching Score.

Screening Questions and Profile

If your Matching Score is high enough to grab the employer’s attention, they’ll probably open your profile. That’s when they’ll see your answers to their Screening Questions. These are the questions the employer adds to the application to evaluate whether or not you’re right for the job.

Many candidates on WUZZUF tend to overlook these questions, but answering them well is quite important. Not only are these questions the first thing employers see when they click on your profile, but also they increase your Matching Score and give you the opportunity to differentiate yourself from the hundreds of other applicants that want the same job.

Remember that employers are busy. Our research shows that employers on WUZZUF only spend an average of 7 seconds looking at an application. This is your chance to impress them. So don’t waste it. Make sure your answers are excellent to make the employer interested enough to keep reading.

After seeing your answers to their Screening Questions, the employer finally gets the chance to see your profile. We need to point out here that employers on WUZZUF see your profile first, not your uploaded CV.

So what information you add to your WUZZUF profile and how detailed it is matter a lot. You have to complete your profile to warrant a high Profile Meter, which increases your Matching Score. In addition, you have to make sure you mention the most relevant skills, experience, and Job Preferences in your profile, which also increases your Matching Score.

Employer Actions

After employers on WUZZUF reach a decision regarding your application, they are presented with one of two options: They either shortlist your application or reject it.

However, sometimes employers view your application but take no action at all. Other times they shortlist your application without contacting you or they reject it without listing a reason. We understand how frustrating this can be, but employers can, unfortunately, be quite neglectful at times, in addition to the fact that they sometimes misunderstand and therefore misuse the actions on WUZZUF.

This is why we’re working on both enhancing the employer’s actions on WUZZUF and communicating the significance of these functions more efficiently to the employers who use our platform.

Whether it has been viewed, not viewed, shortlisted, or rejected, the status of your application appears in the Track Applications page, which you can access from your Dashboard.

It’s important to understand here that being shortlisted doesn’t mean you got the job. However, it does mean the employer is likely to use the Unlock feature.

Unlocking a profile

What is unlocking a profile, you ask? It’s simply a tool that allows the employer to access your contact information. Before unlocking your profile, the employer cannot contact you in any way. Also, employers can only see the CV you uploaded after they unlock your profile.

When this happens, Contacts Accessed appears as an action in your Track Applications page. That’s how you know the employer has unlocked your profile.

Here, it’s important to note that if an employer has shortlisted your application or even unlocked your profile, it doesn’t mean they’ll immediately call you or that you got the job. However, it does mean you have a shot at landing an interview.
